Whistleblower Protection Training for Local Self-Governments
June 7, 2019
On June 5-6, 2019 USAID Government Accountability Initiative organized whistleblower protection training in Belgrade, delivered by international expert, Mr. Tom Devine and representatives of Pistaljka, prominent Serbian organisation that provides protection and support to whistleblowers. Training was attended by 31 participants (persons designated for receiving whistleblowers reports and heads of local administration), representing 16 local government units.
This is advanced training, organized for persons that have attended one of four basic trainings, and it is focused on actual work with whistleblowers, skills and investigation techniques needed to take actions based on internal whistleblowing reports. Participants worked on a number of case studies and took part in simulations of various whistleblower cases. The role play exercises included taking actions based on whistleblower report and conducting investigation.
Participants were presented with certificates of training completion. Training was very well-received and evaluated, reflecting need and interest for further assistance in raising awareness and capacity building of LSGs in this area.
