USAID Government Accountability Initiative Provides Training on Performance Audit Best Practices for SAI Compliance Auditors

December 25, 2020

In the course of USAID Government Accountability Initiative support to State Audit Institution in building further capacities for performance auditing, Best practices in performance audit have been introduced to SAI’s financial and compliance auditors. Training was held from 15-17 December 2020, online, by Ms. Laurie Ekstrand, Mr. Stephen Caldwell, and GAI COP Jacquelyn Williams-Bridgers, former senior executives of US Government Accountability Office.

SAI financial and compliance auditors have been trained on performance auditing best practices including performance methodologies, data analytics, root cause analysis, auditing for high risk and reporting and strategic communication in report writing.

The training introduced more than 40 auditors to the performance audit policies SAI recently adopted, to facilitate their contribution to the annual selection of audit topics, performance audit design and message development for reporting. Also, the training has enabled them to closely examine the root causes of deficiencies identified during compliance audits.
