Final Public Debate on Draft Local Anticorruption Plan for the City of Vranje

On Monday, July 22, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Government Accountability Initiative, Transparency Serbia, and the City of Vranje presented the final draft of the Local Anticorruption plan and held a round table and the final in a series of public debates about the plan. The participants had the opportunity to provide their opinion, suggestions and comments on the Draft of this document to which the Working Group worked from January to June 2019 with the intensive support of Transparency Serbia.

Operational Planning Training for Anti-Corruption Agency

On July 9-10, USAID Government Accountability Initiative organized the first operational planning workshop for the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA), within the technical assistance in developing its 2019-2020 Operational Plan to implement ACA’s Strategic Plan for the period 2019-2023. The Operational Plan will guide the day to day activities of the ACA to achieve the goals and result areas set in the Strategic Plan.
Raska Municipality Adopts Local Anticorruption Plan

The Municipal Assembly of Raska adopted the Local Anti-Corruption Plan (LAP) on 26 June 2019. Adopted by each local self-government unit, the LAP is a document which serves to identify the risks of corruption in the work of local public institutions and to plan activities to mitigate or eliminate those risks. By applying the LAPs and by establishing adequate mechanisms for monitoring of LAP implementation, cities and municipalities should be able to reduce the level of corruption and better protect public interest – the interest of citizens and the local community.
Improving Local Government Communication with Citizens Through Social Media

Access to the internet has created connections and opportunities for local governments to communicate with the public that previously have not existed. New technologies and the internet have impacted the way public administration operates enabling greater efficiency in delivery of information and services to citizens and businesses and importantly, creating opportunities for more transparency and accountability in public administration. With the development of social media, a new means of communication with citizens and business has emerged and local governments are often slow to grasp the opportunities that the newer communication platforms provide.
Local Anticorruption Plan for Sjenica Municipality Adopted

The Municipal Assembly of Sjenica has adopted a revised and upgraded Local Anticorruption Plan (LAP) which identifies competencies, areas, processes and procedures that are at risk of corruption and suggests ways to manage these risks, i.e. their elimination. By applying the LAP and establishing a mechanism for monitoring its implementation, the Municipality of Sjenica will undertake activities in order to strengthen its resilience to the occurrence of corruption and irregularities, or to strengthen the capacity to realize the public interest of the local community.
