City of Vranje Adopts Local Anti-Corruption Plan
September 27, 2019
On Thursday, September 26th, the City of Vranje adopted a revised Local Anti-Corruption Plan (LAP), drafted by the City with the assistance of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Government Accountability Initiative and Transparency Serbia. An LAP helps prevent corruption in local public institutions. Vranje adopted its first LAP in 2015, indicating the importance of preventing corruption and protecting the public interest.
Following the adoption of the LAP, USAID and Transparency Serbia will continue to support the City of Vranje in establishing a Local Anti-Corruption Forum, an independent body to monitor the implementation of the LAP. With the support of USAID and Transparency Serbia, Vranje is the fourth city in Serbia to adopt an LAP. Previously, LAPs were adopted in Raska, Sjenica and Vrnjacka Banja.
Through the Government Accountability Initiative, USAID continues to support local self-governments in increasing public participation in decision-making and oversight, and develop mechanisms for local self-governments to function in a more transparent and accountable manner.
