A Series of Trainings on the Implementation of the Law on Personal Data Protection
February 28, 2020
The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection (Commissioner) and the USAID Government Accountability Initiative held nine one-day trainings from December 2019 through February 2020 on the implementation of the Law on Personal Data Protection. The trainings were organized in the cities and municipalities that are partners of the Project, and not only local self-governments were invited, but also other public sector institutions at the local level – educational and health institutions, social welfare institutions, public enterprises, judicial institutions, holders of public authority (notaries and bailiffs) and others. So far, nearly 300 participants have attended the trainings.
Implementation of the Law on Personal Data Protection started on August 22, 2019. Due to the numerous novelties introduced by the law in the Serbian legal environment, as well as the legal ambiguities it contains, the complexity of the topic and the lack of willingness of some institutions to fully act in accordance with this law, there is a clear need to ensure that controllers and processors of personal data are as capable as possible and as soon as possible of implementing it. This need was also confirmed by the strong interest of public institutions in these trainings.
The Commissioner and the Government Accountability Initiative will organize training in three other cities – Pirot, Vrnjacka Banja and Sremska Mitrovica.
